This time the dream was different from all the others, I was still at my family home but this time I saw my parents wedding day, and there was a strange woman standing beside me. I knew there was no way I was remembering this, but here I was all the same. I tried to call out to them, but they couldn’t seem to hear me. The woman in the flowing black silk turned to me.
“They cannot hear you. This was before your time, but necessary for you to see. Hello, Emerald, I have been waiting for you to come back to us.”
“Why and who are you?”
“Do you not recognize me? I am the Goddess Morrigan of course. I have been waiting for you simply because you are the chosen bride after all.”
Before I could ask what, she meant she held up her hand.
“There will be time enough for your questions later, now there is something I wish to show you.”
The room disappeared and we were now standing in my parent’s bedroom. I watched my father kneeling in front of mother and hand her a sword I had not seen since my childhood. “I give this gift to you; it represents my eternal love to you.”
“Oh James’ it’s beautiful.” He then showed her the top of the sword, where claws were open as if waiting for something. Mother, then took the ruby from my dreams and placed it inside the clawed hand. The ruby and sword began to glow; I knew somehow that we were fated to guard the sword and stone inside it.

I knew it has been 300 years since I left, but the grounds had never been neglected like this, even in times of war. It was meant to be a symbol for all around, that life would go on and prosper, no matter what hardships fell our way. As a child, I had believed magic was the reason my home was always beautiful, but seeing it now, I couldn’t have faith anymore.
“Hey, is anyone home!” Max yelled out startling me from my memories. “Are you just going to sit there or get out and show me around? Come on, remember I’m with you and nothing is making me leave your side.”
I smiled and got out of the car walking over to him and kissing him for all he was worth.
“Uh-hum, excuse me, but can I help you?” I turned to see an old man walking toward us.
“Oh, excuse us, but we were just wondering if we might be able to see the Lady of the house? I believe she is expecting us, well at the very least me.” I tried explaining our presence here.
“Well I don’t know, a lot of young folk like yourselves, come around to see the old place and cause mischief. How do I know you aren’t here to cause trouble?”
“I promise we’ll leave if you will just ask her about me.”
“Now just who should I say is calling?”
“My name is Emerald, and this is Max. Will you just please ask her if she knows the chosen bride?”
