Tagline: What if Red Riding Hood invited peril, and the big bad wolf was the only hero who could save her?

Blurb:

Promised power and position, Scarlett Capuche left her tiny village to join the prestigious Order of the Phoenix.

Brooding alpha, Monty Blackwolf never wanted a mate, especially not a human raised on a hidden farm for blood-ritual sacrifice. But his werewolf's heightened sense of smell drew him to Scarlett's sweet fragrance from miles away.

Duty-bound to protect her, he will break her of her religious devotion to the magical terrorist group responsible for the murders of his parents and older brother, even if he has to put her over his knee and turn her bottom as red as her hair.

She belongs to him now, and he will claim all of her despite his affliction with a unique, third shifter-form he doesn't fully understand and isn't able to control.

Will Monty save Scarlett, or will he prove more dangerous to her than anyone else?

Author's Note: If you're offended by steamy fairytale retellings with graphic language, explicit put-you-in-the-moment love scenes, elements of power exchange, and domestic discipline, you might want to look for a different book.

Excerpt: (PG-16ish)

“Elosha warned me. She said there would be people who would try to turn me against The Order, predominantly men because they can’t stand a matriarchal society with the dominant power. She said that’s why men only want to marry virgins because they’re too selfish to raise a baby that isn’t their blood.” Without waiting for his rebuttal, she ran for the exit, but as she opened the passage a couple of inches, he slapped his huge hand against the wood and forced her escape-access shut.

He pinned her against the door, breathing down her neck. “You are mine, and you aren’t going anywhere unless I say you can.”

“Talk about proving my point.” She yanked at the knob.

His breath clung to her nape as his strapping body crushed her. She closed her eyes, unable to move beneath his weight. He held each of her wrists, his palms surrounding them, and applying enough pressure she knew he could break her bones if he desired. His cock pressed against her ass, hardening as she squirmed. He brushed his cheek against the side of her forehead, prickling her skin with his beard.

“I’m sorry, Scarlett. I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this, but you have to understand who’s in charge. You will obey me.”

Scarlett’s heart thumped as sweat trickled down from her hairline. She had no idea what to expect from this man who ran hot and cold in the blink of an eye.

Violet pleased? #MFRWhooks

For those of you who have read the previous excerpts with Violet included, you will understand that the fact Violet is possibly pleased is a a miracle in itself! Violet was a character I had not intended on but became a force to be reckoned with by both the characters and myself.

Once that happens, nothing is impossible.

Excerpt

This was a cleansing place, a place to refill an empty soul. Aine and I were not the only ones to be content and amazed. Kyle’s breath quickened, while Jack thanked the Goddess for nature’s perfect gift. I understood Kyle’s revelation. This was where I would receive my gift. I also understood Jack’s need to praise the Goddess, for surely her presence was still here, stronger than ever.

Bells chimed a tender whisper on the wind.

“Come to me, Queen Shayla. Come and receive what I have waited so long to give.”

“We need to cross the lake now; she is waiting for me.”

I pointed to the small, white boat at the edge of the lake. No one questioned its remarkable presence, or my request. They only did as I asked. I climbed in, and once we were seated, Kyle began rowing our way across. I hoped he would go faster, but the rigid line of his back bade me be patient.

Instead, I faced my reflection in the water as it undulated by, contemplating death without fear, knowing that even if this boat were to overturn, a drowning would not stop me from reaching the island. Somehow, I would always make it. I would become a fish and swim.

On the island, we made our way to the center easily enough. Silver stones and golden sands led us to the cave’s entrance. I strode to the sacred opening I knew existed behind its vines of jade and turned to the others before passing through the curtain.

“This is as far as you all can go. I have to go the rest of the way alone.”

I swept the ivy aside, and made my way in. Painted cranes of all sizes dotted the walls, each prepared for flight. I turned back once to gaze at the entrance, but there was only blackness.

“Come, Queen of the Fay. I do not wish to wait any longer to give you what I have waited lifetimes to pass on.”

Her voice became closer with each step I took. Emerging through a jewel-strewn doorway, I finally bore myself into her presence. Corra wore the appearance of a crane. Incredible, she was as white as snow, and at least ten feet of pure marble.

“Step closer, Daughter of the Gods. Step up and claim your true power, my Child of the Brides.”

La Roe's by Dee Owens

Excerpt Taken from Chapter 10

La Roe's by Dee Owens
What I saw lying on the floor stopped me dead in my tracks; there in the middle of the room was my sweet Katie. She was just lying there in something red. I crawled over to her then and saw the horrible gash in her stomach. The red I had seen was her blood, her life pouring out of her. I cradled her head in my lap and I began rocking her back and forth.

“No, Katie, not you. No, oh why God, why her, why did it have to be her?” I screamed out loud.

Even through my pain, I could hear Max coming up the front steps. I didn’t even want him around. I felt my power flare up. It consumed me, and all around. The only thing I could think of was no. No one was hurting her again. The world began spinning then, and any control I had was gone. I saw Katie’s grave again only this time it was covered in her blood. I stared down at the ugly hole, where her stomach should have been. Trying to see her whole again, but my mind could not, would not, get passed the blood. It’s her blood. Someone did this to her. I swear with everything in me. I’ll kill whoever did this to her.

“Do you hear me, you are dead, and you just don’t know it yet. I am going to kill you. I don’t care now if I have to walk this world for an eternity. I will find you and kill you. Your life is forfeit, it belongs to me now, and I want you dead. Do you hear me? DEAD!” I screamed with deadly menace to the empty room and knew he had heard me. Knew I was coming for him, he also knew I would never stop until he was dead.

I barely heard the door crash in, one moment I was holding Katie and the next someone was trying to take her away from me. Without thinking, I pushed them away from us with only a thought. The room was growing brightly now, almost a forest green, the same brilliant color of my family’s crests. The light had grown so bright. It was hurting my eyes. I closed them to the growing pain.

I could feel my hair flaring out around as though it was a living fire. My last conscious thought was, “I was too late to save someone I cared about, again. Someone else was paying because of me.” I knew the darkness was swallowing me and I was grateful for it. Welcomed it. Knowing I wouldn’t feel the pain of her loss cutting my heart in two.

When I came to, I could feel someone sitting next to me. “Miss, can you hear me?” I heard a man asking me. Each time I tried to answer them, my throat felt as though there were a thousand of tiny pieces of glass slicing it. Placing my hands to my neck, I tried to explain what was wrong.

“Yes ma’am, I understand, your friend said you had been screaming for a while before you finally passed out. Can you remember what happened, anything at all?” He had sympathy in his voice and sounded as if he was trying to talk someone out of jumping.

I thought about it for a moment and then trying to answer him. I mouthed. “Katie’s dead.” Nothing came out though, all I could do was nod my head yes.

“It’s all right I do understand. Your friend Maxwell Howard told us most of what happened. I will just ask you some basic questions; you can nod your head yes or no. Do you think you could do that for me?”

When I nodded yes, he continued. “Mr. Howard said you two had been looking for your friend, a Katherine Park, is that correct?”

I nodded again.

“Mr. Howard also states you received a tip to come here, but don’t know who from.”

I started to nod my head yes again, but stopped to shake my head no. There was no way I was going to cover up for anybody, not if it meant finding Katie’s killer.

“Yes you had a tip?”

I nodded.

“No, you don’t know who it was from?”

I shook my head no.

“You do know who the tip came from?”

I nodded my head yes. I took my cell phone out of my jeans then, thanking whoever had put the IV in my left hand and not my right. I gave him the cell phone.

“Was it the last call?” He asked guessing.

I nodded yes even harder then. I could hear him pushing buttons on the phone. I couldn’t open my eyes to see him though. Someone had put bandages over my eyes.

“The last number on here is for a Mom and Pop’s store, is that it?” He no longer sounded as though I was a jumper but as if I had given him an early Christmas Present.

I nodded again, but the pain in my head was growing worse. What I was feeling must have shown on my face, for someone else spoke up then.

“That is enough Detective, I believe Ms. Jade has been through enough for one night.” It was a woman’s voice this time.

“Just one more question, do you know who did this?” The Detective asked.

I thought about it for a moment, before shaking my head no. Even though I was almost positive it was MacNee, I had no proof he had done it. The Detective said he would be in touch, before placing a card in my hand.

I heard the woman then. “I am sorry sir, but we are getting ready to take her to the hospital.” I had wanted to protest, the last place I wanted, or needed to go was the hospital. They would run tests there and I didn’t want to try explaining, my age or whatever else the test might show.

“It’s all right the Lady is with me, and I have permission to take her home.” I heard Max reply then, I was so happy to hear his voice I began to cry. I started to try to get up on my own, but was held down. Damn I hated being weak!

“All right, but at least let me unhook you first.” The woman said and sounded as though she was scolding a child. I had figured out already, she was an EMT and waited for her to disconnect me.

Once I was free however, I began to reach out to Max. I felt his hands under my body, picking me up. Max had to promise to take me to the doctor, and have my throat checked out if it didn’t get better in a few days.

I heard someone new, then. “It would be a shame for her to lose her voice, you know with her not being able to see either.”

No, one must not have been able to see my face; because I knew the shock I had felt was surely showing now. What did they mean, not being able to see?

I felt Max sit me in my car, or at least I hoped it was mine. “I know the car is not the place for us to talk about what happened. But we will talk, and you are going to tell me everything. Especially about what happened back there in the cabin.” I didn’t know who he was madder at the guy who killed Katie or me.

We rode the rest of the way back in silence. I had reached out to the sound of his voice, trying to tell him I understood. When he had said nothing else about it, I just settled more into the seat. I knew though, when my voice came back, we would have our talk, and Max would want to know everything. Call me anything you want, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to leave anything out.

Fay's Wish by Dee Owens

Excerpt Taken from Chapter Four – THE FIRST KISS

Fay's Wish by Dee OwensAs I entered the garden, the smell of succulent roses and flowed through my body, while the path itself was soothing with vibrant green and deep red stones. Gliding softly over the smooth stones, I headed for the waterfalls, sighing in pleasure as the soft moss lining it caressed and soothed my feet and heart. In all of Fay Island, this was my sanctuary. A place I could be myself, forget royal burdens and courtly duties. When I was younger I often found myself drawn here to search for my perfect mate.

In the center of the Garden, a mist was gathering against the steep rocks. Staring down I contemplated the brilliance flowing beneath the spray as it cast a shimmering silver hue in its depths. The sound of chimes filled the air as the falls began to play a sweet melody all of their own.

“They say when the water is such color, magic is trying to reach out to a Fay,” Aine said.

I turned and took in her beauty, as always she was hidden behind a garment of deep red, this time however the hood draping her face was pulled back. I was struck at the mane of red hair flowing around her body; it reminded me of silk caressing the radiant face now in full view.

As I contemplated Aine, I could not understand why she hid behind the red shroud. Her beauty was astounding. “If the water changed for one Fay, then who is it? You and I are the only ones here.”
“It is waiting to receive you. I have been here for some time, and the water did not change until you arrived.”

The look of poise on her face made me wonder if she might be right. I turned toward the water, sensing it call to me, beckoning me to step in.

I do not know whether it was Aine’s faith, or the water itself, but I waded in before I could stop to think. The water swirled around my body, stroking each curve with an intimate caress. I expected it to be cooler as I waded further in, but instead, it grew hot. Aine had been right. The water was responding to my touch, my intimate power. I was sure of it. Since my birth, there had not been a gift of magic such as this given. For whatever reason, I was to receive an old and precious gift.

“Do not be frightened, Princess, let the water carry you, comfort you, love you. Let it give you it’s offering in great joy. Know that, of the entire Fay, you are the one to receive a blessing from it.”
Aine’s words made sense. The water’s magic wanted to love me, caressing my body with its essence, giving me the bounty it was. It was now up to me to love it in return.

Taking her words and my thoughts to heart, I closed my eyes and opened my arms. The water pushed against my thighs, and I lifted my feet in response. Cradling me in lover’s arms, the water held my head above itself, before carrying me into its depth. Not once did I panic. I trusted the water as though it were my lover. The magic of the moment provided all I needed to survive. Opening my eyes, the water radiated silvery magic and faded to midnight blue, pulsating with resilient energy. Part of my mind screamed of the danger surrounding me, but my heart could only rejoice.

At that moment, I saw him. His eyes were the deepest blue I had ever seen, with silver flecks shooting out from the center of it, the same vividness as the water surrounding us. A ring of forest green surrounded the blue. The coal black hair made his creamy skin rich. Everything about him left no doubt to any of my senses. My whole body vibrated. From his chiseled features, to his broad shoulders, he was everything I had ever dared dream. He emanated male. I could only guess at his height, but he seemed taller than life to me.

My enchantment had caught me off guard. His height compared to a male Fay in his prime, and I wondered why I had never met him before. In reaction to my query, his surroundings changed from an island forest to a small town. The buildings were constructed of a wood I knew had not been made by Fay, but by man.

My heart faltered. He was human. Nothing was to come from these feelings building deep inside of me.

Fay have been forbidden to mate with humans, and the few half bloods left were either from before my Grandfather’s rule, or descendants of those who had ventured into the mortal’s world.

The water grew intense. Had I said or done something to upset the magic? The image of the man clarified again. He was in the very water with me. From within, I could not stop the heat from rising, as I watched our bodies begin to entwine with each other. Each kiss he placed upon my skin burst like sunlight through the mists.

My breasts lifted to his lips as the climax began to grow in my abdomen and move lower. My entire body became heavy with a need I had not felt before. With each powerful stroke inside me, my skin grew hotter. It echoed the inferno surrounding us. I had only heard of such impulsive things happening between the Gods and Goddesses. When our bodies peaked, his grip told me he felt each sensation I did.

I only hoped he thought he was dreaming, or I would begin to fear for his mind. According to tales from the Elders, humans no longer believed in Fairies, and only a few believed that magic existed at all. Most of those thought magic evil.

He reached out. Not toward my image, but to me, seeing through the mist as I had. The steel in his eyes concerned and frightened me…

First Kiss with a BANG! Blog Hop

As an author I am excited to be here today… I have been working on a few new titles… So for First Kiss with a Bang! I am gonna go with Chocolate Seduction…

I will be giving away a Copy of Fay’s Wish, La Roe’s and a Sneak Peek Copy of Chocolate Seductions… During the week I will be posting more excerpts from Chocolate Seduction with other First Kisses… ;) Enjoy, Have Fun and Good Luck!

Here is an Excerpt taken from Chocolate Seduction where Ambrosia and Grant Share their Sorta First Kiss :)

Chocolate Seductions by Dee OwensWhy had I asked him to help me? Just when I thought I couldn’t hold my breath any longer, I felt Grants hands on my shoulders. His touch was gentle, almost too gentle, and as his hands slid down to just above my waist memories from the past came flooding back.

It had been one month since the night of the reading, Grant and I had been arguing over both Burundi Wines and Sinfully Chocolates. Not being able to stand it anymore I had stormed out of the room and headed outside to the gazebo. It had been unusually warm that day and I had changed from my black silk pants suit into a sundress. I don’t know how long I had stood there with tears running down my face when I felt strong arms circle my waist.

Grant’s breath had been warm against my skin as he spoke softly against my neck. “Ambrosia I am sorry, I did not mean for it to get out of hand like that. I just want what is best for both out families and my owning Burundi Wines is just that.”

“Maybe for you but not for me, I just used Keith’s life’s work to secure Burundi Wines solely under my control. I cannot turn around and sell it, it’s a part of my heritage, my family, my future and I am not selling it to you or anyone else.” I had begun to pull away when Grant tightened his arms more securely around me.

“I give you my word I didn’t come out here to argue with you, truce for now at least?”

Not knowing if he was sincere or not but too tired to fight anymore I simply nodded my head. I had expected him to release me now, and was surprised when he rested his head on my own. Tired, lonely, and finally having Grant’s gentle attention after so many years of wanting him, I sighed and relaxed in his embrace.

It was then that I felt the tension leave his body, we both stood there in silence comforting one another. As my body sank more deeply into his I felt a twinge begin deep inside me and felt his growing response.

As I moved to escape, Grant turned me in his arms, silencing any protest with a tender kiss. If he had forced the kiss I might have been able to pull away, but I wanted, craved the tenderness of a lover. His lips grew more intently the longer our mouths touched and his hands were no longer simply resting on my waist but moving slowly up and down my back. At my groan of need he moved his hands to the zipper and began to work it easily down.

Children of Time Blog Tour – Author Interview

Eric R Johnston at Children of Time Blog Tour

World Castle Publishing

Can you tell us about Children of Time?
Children of Time is a dark fantasy, sci-fi novel that deals with timeline manipulation. It starts with a prologue that is to show life for one of the main characters before the events in the story. Whether there really is a before comes into question throughout the novel, but for Shawna, she had survived an abusive marriage after killing her husband in self-defense.
After a nightmare six years later, Shawna’s young daughter, Alexis, comes to sleep with her. She had dreamed of a time when she died. It was so real to her. Shawna thinks nothing of it, but allows Alexis to sleep with her.
What happens next sets the story exploding into an action-packed thrill ride. Shawna wakes to find Alexis gone and a strange man in her bed. The man is as confused as she is, knowing that he’s dead, or should be.

What could be happening?
Well that is for, reader, to find out.

What was your inspiration for the story and the writing process?
The story actually came from two different places.
After completing A Light in the Dark, I began a novel I called Temporal Winter. The title came from a play on the phrase “nuclear winter,” which describes a particularly bad outcome of a nuclear war. This story was about a war between time periods instead of nations. In the distant future, humans develop “temporal weapons” that have the ability to erase people or events from history. The novel opened up with a temporal attack on the present.
This was an idea that had been brought up in several science fiction outlets, but I hadn’t seen anyone do much with it. Sometime, as a writer, if there’s a story I want to read and I can’t find it, I’ll write it myself.
The novel just was not working. Maybe it was too difficult, or maybe I couldn’t stop thinking about the how the fate of the villain of A Light in the Dark was left pretty ambiguous. I kept thinking about the dark world he’d been exiled to…thinking about what he was doing there. So I decided to write another novel that I called City of Evil.
The problem I ran into with City of Evil was I didn’t have enough story for a full-length novel, and what I had served better a back story to something better anyway. So I put it that aside and began working on Temporal Winter again. Then it dawned on me that these were actually two parts of the same story, that it was really the demon in the dark world affecting time, not humans from the future.

Children of Time ties into An Inner Darkness and A Light in the Dark, but is intended to be read as a stand-alone novel.

When did you realize you wanted to write?
The first time I think I consciously thought about it was when I was 10 years old. That was when I wrote my first story.  I was really into the Goosebumps books, which were very popular at the time, and I wanted to write stories just like those. I continued to write through the years, earning the praise of teachers and University professors, before setting my mind to write a novel in 2009. That first novel was Harvester: Ascension, a book that turned out better than I could ever have imagined.

Do you have anything in the works now?
I have many things in the works, but I will only list two. I am working on the sequel to 9111 Sharp Road called In the Pale Moonlight. This series is about a town overrun by vampires and ghosts from another world.
I am also working on book that deals with suicide in an interesting way. I can’t comment much on it because it is still in its planning stages, but I will say anyone who reads it will never look at life the same way again. The title for that one is All I Want in Life…

What hobbies do you have outside of writing?
I like working out, walking running, reading, and watching TV shows online. I am currently watching Battlestar Gallactica, and I’m uber excited for the final episodes of Breaking Bad and the final season of Dexter.
Additionally, I am an English and Social Studies teacher and an editor.

What would you like the readers to ask of you?
My mind drifts to L. Frank Baum, whose fans were so into The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, that they demanded he write more and more and more books detailing that world. I would love to have a similar reaction and request concerning the world I created in An Inner Darkness and A Light in the Dark. I would love one day to revisit, see how things are going, and report back to my readers.

First Kiss with a Bang! Blog HopI get the distinct pleasure of not only being the Host of First Kiss with a Bang! Blog Hop as the Owner/CEO of Personalized Marketing… but I also get to join in the fun and participate as an Author for the Event!

To ensure that my two persona’s are distinctively separated… I will keep my post today in the fashion of Author Dee Owens. I will also be doing a give-away for the event, an ebook copy of La Roe’s and Fay’s Wish… from which my First Kiss Post will be about… :)

In Fay’s Wish Shayla Princess of the Fay has a daunting task in before her, to bring back Magic to Fae. If she fails, not only could she lose her life, but also be forced into a marriage against her will. Her once thought enemy is now her strongest ally, and her heart, mind, body and soul are up for grabs…

Fay’s Wish

Fay's Wish by Dee OwensMy heart faltered.

*******

I could only nod. Who was he that he would refer to the ‘Gods’ as I had? Was I wrong, was he Fay?
“Are you all right? You seem upset or scared.”

The tenderness in his voice struck like a harp string and brought tears to my eyes. “I am fine, but you must understand we can never go any farther. We must never meet.” I suspected, unless we accidentally ran into each other on my journey, all this worry meant very little. But, his beliefs still filled me with concern.

“Well, if this is all we can ever have, I guess we should make the best of it. My name is Kyle.”

“Hello, Kyle.” Now why did I say that? “I am sorry. It is a bit trivial to say hello now.”

“No. Never. I love hearing you say it. From now on, I want you to say it each time we meet.”

He was no longer facing away from me, but relaxed, in a small pool of water. “I am in a hidden pool near my home. Care to join me?”

“If you’d like.” I could not believe how his request caused my chest to swell. I hesitated. “I can see some of what is around you, but not exactly where you are.”

“What do you see now?”

He was still in the pool of water. I was struck with a horrible idea. “I need to ask you a couple things first.”

“Anything, sweetheart.”

“Can you see where I am now?”

“You are lying on a huge bed made of silver and wood.”

It was as I feared. He could see what was around me. “You mention relaxing, right? Are you asleep, dreaming your bath, or awake?”

“Awake. Aren’t you?”

“No. I am asleep. We must be very careful. If my people knew you could see where I am, they would punish me and hunt you down.”

“You keep speaking of your people. Just who and what are they?”

“I cannot reveal that, but I am a true Princess. I would like to join you, but it is best I do not. The first time we met, what happened to you? Can you explain how you got there, and what happened after?”

“Sure. I was walking through the woods when I saw you under a canopy of trees. You opened your arms to me, and I wanted nothing more than to touch you. The next thing I knew, we were in dark blue water that glowed. After, when I was back in the forest, my clothes were wet and lying on the ground beside me.” He paused. “What are you thinking?”

“We are in serious trouble. I will join you in the water, but only for a moment, then I must go. I promise to try and return though. I need to know something, and the only way is when I am awake.”
“You make a promise of seeing me again?”

“I do not think either of us could stop, even if we wanted.” I did not want to stop. If not for his life being forfeit, I would stay with him as long as the Gods allowed.

“Come and tell me goodbye, then.”

I crossed over to him, letting the water soak through my gown, and did what I desired to since we’d first met. Whispering Leannan, I caressed the sides of his face, and brushed my lips against his mouth. His lips were warmer, fuller, and more real than I ever imagined. He was made for me. Everything I ever wanted in a mate, kept inside my dreams where we could not be hurt.

I jerked away and turned, wishing to end the dream. Awake in my room, I guessed right. My gown was soaked. What we had done affected both physical worlds. This was a gift and a curse, and there would be repercussions. I had everything I could want, but was in the gravest danger of my life.

Interview with Dee Owens: Romancing the Book

Jen: This weekend we welcome Dee Owens to Book Talk. Dee, will you please share a short bio with us?
Dee: Sure, first let me say thank you for having me here. I am a mother, wife, paranormal romance author, editor, and freelance publicist. I started writing in 2004 since then I have published several articles, a second novel, and started my own publicist company. I have had many roles in the writing world, but have found that my heart will always belong to telling the life of my characters.

Jen: Tell us about Fay’s Wish and where it’s available.
Dee: Fay’s Wish is a story that was released in 2006 however the publishing company had some cut backs, and I am now self-publishing the eBook and print version in 2009. The story is getting a fresh look and with self-publishing it I can offer Shayla (the heroine) a chance at getting her tale out there.

Fay’s Wish is a Paranormal Romance set in Scotland. Shayla is a Princess of the Fae and her time has come to find a husband and take her father’s place on the throne. However Shayla does not love or want any of the Fae Males offered to her, so fulfilling her mother’s wish she heads out into the mortal realm. Shayla faces, gods, goddesses, and the worst fate of all, the love of a human. You can read an excerpt of Fay’s Wish at http://authordeeowens.blogspot.com/2013/09/fays-wish.html and purchase the eBook version at my online store http://personalizedmarketing.info/deeowens/store on January 23rd and the Printed version on February 14th with a special gift and discount. The paperback versions will be in P.O.D. with a link to where you can safely order your copy.

Jen: At what age did you discover writing and when were you first published? Tell us your call story.
Dee: I had not really considered the poetry and short tales I did in high school writing until a couple years ago. A friend of mine mentioned something about writing in school and after we got to talking I realized that though nothing ever made it past my own eyes, that is I had wrote in school as well. My first book was released in December 2005 by Publish America. I had been looking for a place that offered publishing to new authors; I have learned many things over the last few years and make my choices more carefully now.

Jen: Are there any other writers, published or not, in your family?
Dee: There are a couple people actually, I found out a couple years ago that my Grandmother had penned a story of her childhood and my daughter has recently began trying her hand at it. My youngest told me only a few days ago that she wanted to be in the book writing business as well, when I asked her how, she had replied well what you do mommy. I hope that when she gets to where this dream is possible that she takes it by storm as she does everything in life.

Jen: Describe your writing in three words.
Dee: WOW ok. Sensual, fulfilling, fun. Ok so not so much fun when I argue with a character, and the fulfilling part is reaching the end and knowing that I did the best I could, and then pushed myself more. Sensual well its romance, so it has to be sensual so that it can seduce the heart.

Jen: Do you have a writing routine?
Dee: I turn on my music, generally Creed, most of the time I use headphones so that the world and my keys hitting the keyboard don’t interfere. When it comes to a certain time, I am like most moms I don’t know what free time means, so I leave my writing to tell me when its time, besides I cant stand forcing something out knowing I am going to erase it anyways. If I am wanting to write but needing inspiration I often light candles and then close my eyes to let whoever is talking to me that day get their voice heard. Each of the books I have written or are writing have been inspired by different things. La Roe’s was a dream about a dress, Fay’s Wish was the day of rain and the mourning I felt at my mother’s loss, while Chocolate Seductions was a need to learn more and a challenge by some friends.

My Muse has taken on her own persona and Brady Raye Daniels is going in a direction that I had not and could not foresee. Some may remember BrandyWine my reviewer name, well now she has an author side to her as well.

Jen: How do you shut out disruptions?
Dee: Can you really shut them out? My daughter is right now poking my arm. I guess I let the world of my writing and my home life mix combine; I don’t try to shut out either, but focus on each equally.

Jen: What kind of research did you do for this book?
Dee: I have never been to Scotland so I found myself at the library looking and reading over everything I could find. I scoured the internet for maps, weather reports and images of anything Scotland I could find. I also talked to friends that had been there online. I will admit I am not found of research, so when someone offers to tell me their own experience I grab at the chance. Fay’s Wish would not have been possible if not for my friends in R_W_P formally Romance_Writing_Period. These ladies saw me through some troubling times with Shayla and her own personal losses.

Jen: What did you do to celebrate the sale of your first book?
Dee: My children and Husband had a party for me, it was filled with love and laughter, and yea a Chocolate Cake. Only family and close friends were there, but why celebrate with strangers when you have loved ones instead.

Jen: Is there a genre that you’d like to write? Is there a genre you’ll probably stay away from and why?
Dee: A new Genre, I guess I would like to try my hand at a Humorous contemporary romances. I enjoy reading stories where the heroine has a smart wit, or continually finds herself in amusing situations. I am not that funny or light so I doubt that will ever happen but I imagine it would be a fun ride.

A genre I will never write? I would say Historical Fact, since I am not a fan of research. At one time I may have said Mystery but each romance at least a good story has some form of mystery in it.

Jen: Do you feel as if the characters live with you as you write? Do they haunt your dreams?
Dee: Definitely my characters live with me, and drive me insane. It can be a hair pulling experience when you need them to do one thing and they want to do something else. Haunt my dreams? Ya even when I am wide awake, lol.

Jen: What’s the most interesting comment you have received about your books?
Dee: I had someone once tell me they hated a hero in my book. That was great, since at the time and place she was at in the story he was supposed to be at least disliked. Another person also commented that they wanted to smack the heroine because of how silly she was, yet aren’t characters meant to grow as the story moves forward? I considered both of these comments memorable and some of the highest praises an author can get.

Jen: What’s next for you?
Dee: I hope that 2009 brings more people to my publicist service, I enjoy helping others and find that being able to do that with my company is rewarding in itself. I want to work on the rest of the Cursed Seduction series, give Brandy her time and due, and just spend time reading a good book as well. I don’t see me doing more than what I am at this moment, running a company is a full time job, plus I have other work I do as well. So what’s next? More advertising and clients for Personalized Marketing, giving my writing career its chance to go where it may, but most of all spending time with my Kids, since they are my inspiration and motivation to do the very best I can.

Jen: Where can you be found on the web?

Jen: Is there anything you’d like to ask our readers?

What is the one thing that stands out the most to you when choosing your next book to read?

This review is from: Fay’s Wish (Paperback)

Miss Owens wrote an excellent book, full of imagery, hope and wishes. My favorite part, when Shayla gets a warning and has to go back and fix some things, near the end of the book, fills me with happiness. Shayla’s Can-do kick-[...] attitude in her situation is something I think most women can identify with.

Definitely worth the read!!!

Coffee Time Romance Review: Fay's Wish

Fay's Wish by Dee OwensFAY’S WISH
DEE OWENS
December 2006
121 Pages
Fantasy
Rating: 5 Cups

Princess Shayla grieves the loss of her mother. She is not happy that her father prepares to choose another Queen.

Queen Brigit, the next one in line to marry the King.

Jacques, or Jack of the Guard, escorts Shayla to the human world.

Aine accompanies Shayla as a female companion on the trip.

Aiden, the man she must marry if her mission fails.

Fearghus, her closest ally, agrees she must enter the human world to retain her crown.
Kyle reaches out and touches her soul.

Shayla prepares to leave Fay for the human world to find her true power. She insists her friends only call her by her name and not her title, Princess. It is a trip with setbacks before it even begins. Queen Brigit insists Shayla also be joined by Aine, so nothing transpires between her and Jack. She expresses if Shayla’s mission fails, she should marry Aiden on her return, a suitor that Shayla does not love. On her journey, Fearghus appears in her dreams to proffer help. Shayla knows that she must find her power and her true King. With many foes, along the way, determined to stop her quest from being a success, Shayla is resolved to stay the course.

Fay’s Wish is a gripping, engaging tale that this reader enjoyed immensely. Once I started reading, it was hard to stop. Princess Shayla’s strength will not allow anyone to stand in her way when it comes to family and her desire in life. The secondary characters are robust and very convincing. Ms. Owens fashions a charming story with great personalities that make this one riveting read. She allows this reader to be carried away by the ambience of the sensations and passion that interlace through the pages, in this captivating story full of heartfelt emotions.

Sandy McCann Review: La Roe's

La Roe's by Dee Owens5.0 out of 5 stars Rising New Star!, 3 Feb 2006
By Sandee McCann “Author” (United Kingdom)
This review is from: La Roe’s (Paperback)
From Amazon

Immortal Emerald La Roe has been alive for 300 years. She is currently operating her own paranormal agency under an alias with the help of her dear friend Katherine. Emerald knows she has been cursed and once a year loses her powers. Emerald’s life soon turns upside down when Katherine is murdered and the dreams of a goddess named Morrigan begin. Her lover, Maxwell Howard, a werewolf, is also under the same curse as Emerald after a blood sharing experience.

When Emerald’s dead husband Stefan O’Duff reappears as a cursed immortal after so many years, Emerald swears revenge on the man who long ago abandoned her and cursed her to the fate she now endures. Stefan now offers a possible solution that may end their terrible curse, but it involves an intimacy with the man Emerald has sworn to kill.

La Roe’s is an absorbing, well crafted first novel for Dee Owen’s. Ms. Owen’s takes her reader into the lives, past and current, of her many unique characters who readers will come to care for. La Roe’s, told in first person from Emerald’s point of view that gives the story a more intimate feel, and offers not only a magical story but a lovely romance element as well.
